Abstract:
How do we take the lessons learned from storytelling and flip them around so that we can be a better audience for stories? In this course we will learn to listen for stories in other peoples’ lives, by telling our own and hearing what other people hear from us. This is a great course for those who want to teach storytelling in their classroom OR start their own podcast with others’ stories.

Participation in this course requires completed participation in our introductory storytelling workshop or special permission from instructor. If you would like special permission, contact nisse@storycollider.org.

Full Course Description:
As storytellers we often become fascinated by the stories that aren't ours because they are the stories that provoke us - that we find ourselves repeating. In this workshop we will learn the process of pulling a story out of somebody through listening. We will learn what questions to ask, how to engage, and what details to listen for. This class is designed with teachers and journalists in mind - those eager to approach their practice with new ears, but 'is good for anyone who wants to listen to stories, analyze them, and tell stories in an engaged group of other storytellers.

Participation will be capped at 12 participants.
