The Moth is the mothership organization for modern storytelling. They run both open-mic slams and curated Main Stage shows in cities around the country. Their open-mic-style StorySlams can be a great place for beginners to try out storytelling. Speak Up is a Hartford-based storytelling organization run by Story Collider alum and internationally bestselling author Matthew Dicks and his wife, Elysha. They host live shows in Connecticut, as well as a podcast that features stories from their stage accompanied by commentary, critique, and storytelling advice. Speak Up, Rise Up is an annual storytelling festival in New York that aims to amplify under-represented voices, featuring shows on topics such as LGBTQ issues, immigration, and incarceration. Their mission is to create a network of stories, sharing, and workshops to elevate disenfranchised communities’ stories via personal storytelling. Find out more>>
Opened by Story Collider founder Ben Lillie in 2017, this New York theater hosts The Story Collider and many other similar, “thinking-while-drinking” shows. We recommend Science Exclamation Point, a monthly show where science lectures inspire improve comedy, and You’re the Expert, in which a panel of comedians tries to get to the bottom of what a distinguished scientist studies all day.
