Walt Egbert started out as a full-fledged science nerd, winning multiple elementary school science fairs before moving on to more ambitious projects, including research on windmill blade design that earned a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority award in high school. He decided early on that he wanted to design aircraft, went on to study aerospace engineering, and later worked as a flight controls engineer at Grumman Aerospace. Somewhere along the way, he realized his calling wasn’t to be a scientist, but to help guide them in protecting their work. He went to law school at night and eventually became an intellectual property attorney. These days, his practice is strongly focused on AI, and he looks back fondly on the “simpler” era when computers hummed away in the lab and your friend Claude was a real person.
