Skylar Bayer is a marine biologist, professor, storyteller, author, and science communicator who lives in Alaska. She completed her Ph.D. in the secret sex lives of scallops in Maine, a subject that landed her on The Colbert Report in 2013. Since then she has dabbled in a diversity of science communication activities, including working in the U.S. Senate, writing about disability in science, and co-hosting a podcast about ocean reproduction, Ocean Lovin'. Alongside Gabi Serrato Marks, she is a co-editor of Uncharted: how scientists navigate health, research, and bias. She is passionate about dog rescue, Jiu Jitsu, and convincing her students that improv is good for them.
